The Story of the Barta Group

The Barta Group was founded by József Barta, who, together with his brother, took advantage of the opportunities created by Hungary’s transition to a market economy in the early 1990s. Today, the Barta name has become closely associated with the automotive industry, international vehicle trading, and particularly the Suzuki brand. The Group has accumulated more than 35 years of experience in the automotive sector. In 2010, it expanded into the car rental industry through the acquisition of the Hungarian AVIS Car Rental franchise.

For many years, the company focused primarily on importing and selling used vehicles. However, József Barta recognized that the future belonged to new cars. As markets evolved and Hungary’s new vehicle market began to develop, the company shifted its focus accordingly.

In 1993, the Group opened a Škoda dealership in Paks. Later, it became a Suzuki dealer and expanded its operations across Hungary with multiple locations. In Sárbogárd, the company entered into an agreement with a local taxi company to supply a fleet of 100 vehicles.

Over the years, dealerships were established in Paks, Szekszárd, Székesfehérvár, and Budapest, strengthening the company’s national presence. By the mid-2000s, the Group was selling approximately 2,000 Suzuki vehicles annually, placing it among Hungary’s most successful Suzuki dealership networks.

The company successfully weathered the global financial crisis of 2010 and emerged stronger. In that same year, it secured the rights to operate the Hungarian franchise of AVIS, one of the world’s largest car rental brands, a partnership that continues to thrive today.

In 2010, Anita Barta, József Barta’s younger daughter, joined the family business. In 2012, she became Managing Director of the parent company while simultaneously completing her legal studies and earning a law degree. When József Barta decided to launch a dealership in Schwechat, Austria, Anita gained valuable hands-on experience there and developed her expertise in the automotive business.

Today, the Barta Group is far more than an automotive company. Beyond vehicle sales and mobility services, the Group has expanded into social and educational initiatives. It established a non-profit training center and founded the Foundation for Children and Families with Food Intolerances and Food Allergies, reflecting its long-standing commitment to community support and social responsibility.

Through continuous growth, strong family values, and a customer-focused approach, the Barta Group has evolved into a diversified organization that combines business success with meaningful contributions to society.
